Fiber distribution hardware manages each fiber and connection point that is associated with active electronics. Why do operators, designers, and installers use additional fiber optic hardware racks to manage fiber and cable? The active electronics are the most expensive part of the communications network and if there are disconnects that occur when troubleshooting, it can be very costly for operators. So, port replication is used to deftly manage fiber and cable to and from end users to reduce risk of inadvertent disconnects and network downtime. To provide direct connection between passives and actives, the replication mimics the individual connection ports that are within the active electronics, except they are placed within passive fiber optic hardware.

With reliability, density, and scalability being critical, Corning offers multiple passive distribution hardware offerings for customers. From a frame and rack standpoint, we offer GR-449 compliant rear cable access frames and zone 4 compliant front cable access frames. After selecting the type of frame that suits your network, housings and cassettes are the next components to evaluate. Our housings and cassettes support whatever network architecture you are deploying including 5G, Fiber Deep, and NG-PON networks. Our leading fiber optic hardware solutions include:
Centrix™ System Housings and Cassettes
The Centrix™ System is a high-density fiber management system that provides a balance of industry-leading density with innovative jumper routing. The system can be deployed in multiple applications including central office, headend, FTTx, FTTCS, and data center.
Centrix system supports up to 4,320 LC or 2,880 SC connector ports per standard 7-ft frame/2200 mm. The housing design provides optimized routing paths for jumpers, reducing the risk of pileup or entanglement. There are various cassettes and modules that can be leveraged, including staggered cassettes, MTP®-enabled modules, CPRI tap modules, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) devices, and coexistence modules. A single jumper length for an in-frame, cross-connect network design reduces jumper inventory.
Eclipse® Housings and Modules
The Eclipse® hardware family is designed for FTTx applications and is available with a variety of splitter solutions that can be colocated within the same hardware frame. The Eclipse hardware family can also provide a more traditional cross-connect or interconnect solution for your network.
Eclipse hardware wall-mountable connector housings provide interconnect or cross-connect capabilities between the outside plant, riser or distribution cables, and the opto-electronics. The units are ideal in applications that require low-fiber-count distribution (school systems, public libraries, and businesses) and are available in two sizes: 3- and 6-panel housing.
Enhanced Management Frame Housings and Modules
The enhanced management frame (EMF) is designed for FTTx, cross-connect, and interconnect applications. The integrated modular design allows growth and expansion of a fiber management system one frame, one module, and one fiber termination at a time. User-friendly features such as single-jumper length, in-bay jumper storage, transparent modules, and multiple interbay routing options make this frame an ideal solution for both FTTx deployments and traditional cross-connect and interconnect applications.
